Search
YuChat lets you search within a workspace. All members can search, but results are limited to content they have access to.
Search Types
-
Context Search - searches within the current chat or channel only: messages, files, participants, call names, and meeting notes
Shortcut: Ctrl / ⌘ + F
infoContext search only works when you have a chat or channel open. The current chat/channel name is automatically added to the search bar.
-
Global Search - searches across all channels and chats in the workspace
Shortcut: Ctrl / ⌘ + G
infoGlobal search works from anywhere in the app.
What Each Tab Searches
Results are grouped by tabs. Each tab searches a specific type of data:
| Tab | What it searches | Example query |
|---|---|---|
| Messages | Text of messages in chats and channels | "quarterly report" - finds messages containing this phrase |
| People | Name, surname, email, department, position | "Smith" - finds the employee's profile |
| Channels | Channel names | "project" - finds channels with this word in the name |
| Call Recordings | Call transcripts, meeting notes, call names | "budget" - finds calls where this word was mentioned |
| Files | File names | "presentation" - finds files with this word in the name |
Searching by name finds the employee's profile in the "People" tab. From the profile card, you can navigate to your personal chat with them.
The "Messages" and "Call Recordings" tabs search by content - the text of messages and call transcripts, not by participant names. So searching by someone's name will only show results in these tabs if the name was mentioned in the message text or spoken during the call (and recognized by transcription).
Exact Search
By default, search accounts for typos - for example, searching for "hello" might return "helo". Exact matches always appear first in results.
To find an exact phrase without extra results, wrap your query in quotes:
"quarterly report"- finds only messages with this exact phrasequarterly report(without quotes) - finds messages containing these words, including similar forms and typos
Maximum search query length is 255 characters.
Searching Messages
Searches message content across all channels and personal chats you have access to. Search works on message text, forwarded messages, and voice message transcriptions.
Results appear immediately as you type. Press Enter for more results.
Results are sorted by relevance (how closely they match your query) and date.
