Channels are group chats within a workspace.

YuChat supports three channel types:

  • Private β€” Only administrators or owners can add members.
  • Public β€” Open to all workspace members. Anyone can join. New members are automatically added to the general channel.
  • Announcement β€” Visible to all workspace members, but only administrators and owners can post messages.

Creating Channels​

Create a Public Channel​

  1. In the Channels section, click Add Channel
  2. Enter the channel name
  3. (Optional) Add a description
  4. (Optional) Enable Automatically add all workspace participants
  5. Click Create
  6. Select colleagues and click Invite

Create a Private Channel​

  1. In the Channels section, click Add Channel
  2. Enter the channel name
  3. Enable Private Channel
  4. Click Create
  5. Select users and click Invite

Create an Announcement Channel​

  1. In the Channels section, click Add Channel
  2. Enter the channel name
  3. Enable Announcement Channel
  4. Click Create
  5. Select users and click Invite

Adding Members​

  1. Click the participant count below the channel name
  2. Select Add People
  3. Choose a user and click Invite

Joining a Channel​

To join a public channel:

  1. Go to Channels
  2. Click All
  3. Search for the channel
  4. Click Join

To join a private channel, ask the owner for an invitation link.

Removing Members​

  1. Select the channel
  2. Click the participant count below the channel name
  3. Click All
  4. Select the member and click Remove

Pinning Channels​

Pin important channels to keep them at the top of your list. To pin or unpin, use the Main Menu or Context Menu.

Organizing Channels with Folders​

Group channels into folders for easier navigation:

Creating a folder:
  1. Click
    in the Channels and Chats panel
    yuchat-channel-folders-create
  2. Enter a folder name and select channels to include
  3. Click Create

Editing folders:

  1. Open Channels and Chats
    yuchat-workspace-items-management
  2. Go to the Folders tab
  3. Use Edit Folder or Delete Folder buttons next to each folder

Creating a "Favorites" Folder​

Create a personal storage space for important messages, files, and links:

Setup​

  1. Create a folder β€” Click Add... and name it Favorites

  2. Add a personal channel β€” Create a private channel (e.g., Saved) and add it to your folder

Usage​

βœ” Save items β€” Forward messages here or send files and links directly

βœ” Quick access β€” Find attachments in the Attachments section via the Channel Menu

βœ” Stay organized β€” Use hashtags and search to find what you need

To open:

  • Open the channel and click the participant count below the channel name

You can also right-click to open the context menu.

Available options:

Context Menu​

Right-click any channel in the list to access:

  • Pin/Unpin
  • Disable Notifications
  • Notification Settings
  • Channel Settings
  • Copy Channel Link
  • Call Link in Channel
  • Leave Channel

Notification Settings​

By default, you receive notifications only for mentions, calls, and replies to your messages.

To customize notifications:

You can configure notifications for:

  • Incoming calls
  • All channel messages
  • Reactions to your messages
  • Personal mentions
  • Channel-wide mentions (@channel @here)

You can also disable all notifications for a channel.

Choose how long to disable notifications

Enabling notifications for all messages includes thread messages, even threads you haven't joined. All new thread messages also appear in the Threads section.

With notifications disabled, you won't receive alerts, but unread message counts still appear on channel names.


OS-Level Notification Settings​

YuChat integrates with your operating system's notification center. Configure notifications through system settings for full control.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to System β†’ Notifications
  3. Find YuChat in the app list
    win-notification-center-common
  4. Available settings:
    win-notification-center-yuchat
  • Enable/disable notifications
  • Show banners and/or Notification Center entries
  • Show on lock screen

Viewing Attachments​

  1. Click the participant count below the channel name
  2. Select Attachments
  3. Filter by type:
    • Images
    • Links
    • Documents
    • Audio/video messages
    • Files

Leaving a Channel​

  1. Click the participant count below the channel name
  2. Select Leave Channel
  3. Click Confirm

Making a Channel Private​

  1. Click the participant count below the channel name
  2. Select Make Private
  3. Click Confirm

After making a channel private, new members can only join by invitation.

Renaming a Channel​

  1. Click the participant count below the channel name
  2. Select Rename Channel
  3. Enter the new name
  4. Click Confirm

Only channel administrators or owners can rename channels.

Managing Member Roles​

Owners and administrators can change member roles:

  1. Click the participant count below the channel name
  2. Click All
  3. Select a role from the dropdown next to each member: Administrator, Owner, or Participant
  4. Confirm by clicking Change Role

Browsing All Channels​

  1. Go to Channels
  2. Click All

Searching for Channels​

  1. Go to Channels
  2. Click All
  3. Enter the channel name in the search bar
  4. Click Open

Use Filter List to quickly find channels matching your search.

Archiving Channels​

  1. Open the channel
  2. Click the participant count
  3. Select Archive Channel and confirm

Archived channels can only be restored by system administrators.

Viewing Archived Channels​

  1. In Channels, click All
  2. Go to the Archived Channels tab

Available actions:

  • View: Open and read archived channel content
  • Restore: Owners and administrators can restore archived channels
